Brad Pitt claims Angelina Jolie sought to ‘do harm’ with ‘hostile’ takeover
The new lawsuit comes after speculation that Angelina could sue the FBI over the alleged incident involving Brad and their eldest son Maddox, which allegedly led to their divorce in 2016.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt shocked the world after announcing their separation in September 2016, and although they are now officially divorced, the former couple’s legal battles are far from over.
Brad accuses his ex-wife of intentionally harming him and tarnishing the reputation of their joint wine business by allegedly selling his shares to a “stranger with toxic associations and intentions”.
For some context, in 2008 Brad and Angelina bought a majority stake in a French wine company called Chateau Miraval for a reported €25 million. The business included a sprawling house and vineyard in Correns, France, which served as the location for their secret wedding in 2014.
After initially splitting their ownership of Miraval 60/40 – with Brad holding the majority of the shares – the exes then became equal shareholders in 2013, three years before their split, after Brad transferred 10% of his shares to Angelina .
The pair reportedly pledged never to sell their respective shares in the $164 million company without consulting each other first.
However, in September, Brad accused Angelina of breaking the rules of the alleged deal after she tried to sell her 50% stake without first giving her the chance to buy it out or decline the sale entirely.
It was later reported that Angelina had been given permission to sell her Miraval shares to a third party.
Flash forward to today, and Brad has filed a legal complaint claiming Angelina acted illegally by allegedly selling her shares to a Luxembourg-based spirits maker controlled by a Russian oligarch, Yuri Shefler, without her knowledge.
In new legal documents filed late last week, Brad’s attorneys claim Angelina intentionally sought to damage him and his reputation by assisting in a “hostile” takeover of Miraval.
“Jolie pursued and then concluded the alleged sale in secret, deliberately keeping Pitt in the dark and knowingly violating Pitt’s contractual rights,” her team alleges. “Through the alleged sale, Jolie sought to harm Pitt.”
In addition to allegedly breaching their agreement, Brad’s lawyers also claim that Angelina’s decision to sell her shares to Yuri Shefler was motivated by a desire to tarnish the business and “undermine” Brad’s stewardship by forcing him to do business with “an outsider with toxic associations”. and intentions.
They claim that Shefler “has gained notoriety through cutthroat business tactics and questionable professional associations”, and that associating with him would jeopardize the reputation that Brad “has carefully built” for Miraval.
“Jolie knew and intended that Shefler and his affiliates would try to control the business that Pitt had built and undermine Pitt’s investment in Miraval,” the legal documents state. “All of this is a direct result of Jolie’s unlawful and tortious conduct.”
Writing that Miraval has become “a multi-million dollar global business and one of the most highly regarded rose wine producers in the world” thanks to Brad’s work, the legal documents allege that Angelina “contributed nothing” to the business success.
The lawsuit claims that under the terms of their alleged deal, Angelina owed Brad the right to refuse the deal and that the sale violates that right.
The Once upon a time in Hollywood The actor is asking for a jury trial, asking for an unstated amount of damages, and for the alleged sale of Angelina to be deemed “null and void.”
And if you’ve been following the messy fallout of Brad and Angelina’s split, you’ll know that isn’t the only legal dispute between the exes.
In addition to a contentious custody battle between the two, it was recently speculated that Angelina may be suing the FBI over a 2016 incident involving Brad, which allegedly took place in the days before their split.
In case you need a reminder, the unknown cause of Brad and Angelina’s sudden divorce has long been speculated to center on an alleged incident between Brad and the eldest of the couple’s six children, Maddox.
Although it has never been directly confirmed by either party, reports suggest that Angelina’s decision to part ways with the actor came after a complaint was filed with the Department of Human Services. Childhood and Family in Los Angeles County which included child abuse charges against Brad.
The charges related to an alleged incident between him and Maddox, then 15, while the family was traveling on a private plane. It was widely reported that Angelina filed for divorce five days later.
The incident was investigated at the time, resulting in Brad being cleared of any wrongdoing. The FBI also ruled that further investigations were not warranted.
Now, recent legal filings suggest Angelina may try to challenge that decision under the Freedom of Information Act.
In April, Entertainment Tonight obtained legal documents indicating that a woman identified as Jane Doe was seeking information about “the FBI’s investigation into an incident of domestic violence”, which directly matches previous descriptions of the alleged altercation of 2016 plane involving Brad and Maddox.
“Several years ago, when the Complainant, her then-husband and their children, who were all minors at the time, were traveling by private plane, the husband allegedly physically and verbally abused the Complainant and the children,” Doe claims in the documents.
In the lawsuit, Doe explains that the FBI previously launched an investigation but “publicly announced that it was closing its investigation,” adding that his complaint is part of an effort to “better understand the FBI’s investigation and obtain the information necessary for her children to receive medical care”. trauma care and counseling.
Angelina apparently alluded to the plane incident in a rare interview last September, telling the Guardian: “I had an experience in the States with my own kids, and I thought…eh well, human rights, children’s rights.”
Although she said she had “sworn to keep quiet” on the subject, the actress added, “I’m not the type of person who makes decisions like the ones I had to take lightly. . It took a lot for me to be in a position where I felt I had to separate myself from the father of my children.
