The Robert-Jean De Vogüé Research Center

“Closely aligned with the Living Soils, Living Together program that we launched last year, our new cutting-edge research infrastructure will support all Moët Hennessy Houses as they continue to transform their businesses through sustainability” noted Philippe Schaus, CEO of Moët Hennessy. âNamed in honor of Robert-Jean de Vogüé, one of the Group’s historical leaders who worked tirelessly for the common good in Champagne and beyond, the Research Center will be a crossroads for sharing knowledge between the Houses with researchers from the public sector and also embrace collaboration with other external structures. “
ACCELERATING A HERITAGE OF INNOVATION
Innovation has always been at the heart of Moët Hennessy, and many of its R&D innovations continue to shape the vision of sustainable and resilient viticulture. Moët Hennessy has been advancing this approach for more than 20 years and in 2020 formalized its commitment to sustainable viticulture with âLiving Soilsâ, which aims to unite its communities around the world and develop a global program of social responsibility. The new Center, focused on environmental and industrial challenges, will allow Moët Hennessy to continue to make important contributions to sustainable winemaking practices.
AREAS OF RESEARCH
The Center will cover four main areas of research:
- Innovate to understand: microbiology and biotechnology. Observe and analyze microorganisms to better understand their impact on vineyards.
- Innovating to protect the climate: plant physiology. Carry out experiments on vines and grapes to meet the challenges of global warming.
- Innovate to improve production: process engineering. Analyze each stage of winemaking to optimize processes and promote recyclability.
- Innovate for the experience: sensory analysis and formulation. Analyze the sensory profile of our products at the different stages of manufacture, to continue the quest for excellence of our Houses.
EASE
Designed by architect Giovanni Pace, the 4000 m2 The Robert Jean de Vogüé Research Center represents a commitment to eco-responsibility, the sharing of ideas and collective work. The Research Center is located in the immediate vicinity of the ultramodern Mont Aigu production site in Moët Hennessy.
The building was created with a clear understanding of its connection to the outside world. Integrated into the surrounding landscape, it is embedded in a gently sloping earthen embankment guaranteeing natural insulation. All the materials used meet the highest standards in terms of thermal performance and energy consumption.
THE VISIONARY: ROBERT JEAN DE VOGÃÃ
The new Research Center bears the name of Robert-Jean de Vogüé in homage to this avant-garde thinker in the history of Moët Hennessy. As Chairman of Moët & Chandon, de Vogüé has innovated for the common good of the Group, as well as for the various wine regions. In particular, in the 1930s, Robert-Jean de Vogüé determined a “collective contract “ (collective agreement) with employees, precursor of the social status of employees in France today. And in 1941, he participated in the creation of the CIVC Interprofessional Committee of Champagne wine, a model that has since been reproduced by other French wine regions.
