This Argentinian Malbec offers verve and spice for just $15
Salta is the highest wine region in Argentina, and this altitude gives the wines extra vitality. This wine has a slightly offbeat raw energy. There is verve, flavors of red and black fruit, spice and tension in a raucous way. I’d like to think it can “come together” with a bit more bottle time, but that may miss the point. Sometimes you have to climb the mountain rather than waiting for the mountain to come to you. Alcohol by volume: 13.9 percent. Bottle weight: 530 grams (medium).

Georges Vigouroux, The Counts Cahors Malbec 2020
Spicy, earthy, mineral with a bit of what wine lovers call “forest floor” character – it’s a French expression of Malbec. This means flavors that are more earthy than solar, more spicy than fruity. ABV: 13.5%. Body weight: 415 grams (light).
Imported by Artisans & Vines; distributed in the District and Maryland by Artisans & Vines, in Virginia by LK Wine Tours and Sales.
Dutton Goldfield, Dutton Ranch Chardonnay 2019

Here’s a classic California Chardonnay – rich, oaky, mellow and spicy with flavors of peach, apricot, anise and ginger, lemon curd and lemongrass and… well, you get the idea. The flavors continue, and they’ll take you anywhere you want to go. Certified sustainable. ABV: 13.5%. PC: 630 grams (average).
