What to Know About Taste of Little Italy – NBC 7 San Diego
Indulge in the savory flavors and decadent desserts that Little Italy has to offer as the Taste of Little Italy event returns for its 13th year to appease foodies with samples of some of the neighborhood’s best bites.
Over two dozen local restaurants and businesses will participate in this delicious event, cooking up some of their best meals. The two-day event covers samples of alcoholic drinks, coffee, desserts like ice cream and cakes and, of course, Italian dinners.
Customers who have purchased a ticket will receive a Passport of Taste which serves as a guide listing participating restaurants and tantalizing samples. Customers will need to check in in Piazza della Famiglia, where they can collect their passport of taste.
The event is not only an exciting time for the customers, but also for the participating restaurants. After a difficult year due to the coronavirus pandemic, local restaurants are excited to present some of their tastiest meals and welcome their customers back now that San Diego County has reopened.
Leonardo Landini, owner of Landini’s Pizzeria, told NBC 7 his restaurant is more than ready for Taste of Little Italy.
“They’re going to have a chance to try two different slices which are our fresh ricotta cheese and our spinach, and then we have our classic which is pretty much our pepperoni,” he said of his menu offerings. “And then they’re going to have this pasta.”
To help restaurants recover from the difficult pandemic, 10% of the proceeds from tickets sold will be donated to participating restaurants. Tickets for Taste of Little Italy are sold out, but the Little Italy association still encourages the public to dine at local restaurants.
“For people who don’t get tickets, get out,” said Chris Gomez of the Little Italy Association. “The businesses are always open and they need your support. There are still outdoor dining experiences and opportunities for you to enjoy the ambiance and the food.
Taste of Little Italy will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday under two different time slots for each day.
