Wines and spirits: 3 wineries in Greece among the 100 best in the world in 2022
Three wineries in Greece have been named among the top 100 wineries in the world in 2022 by Wine & Spirits Magazine.
A prestigious American magazine, Wine & Spirits presents each year the best wine estates in the world selected by its wine journalists and critics.
The magazine reviewed thousands of producers in its two-step blind tasting process to highlight the top 100 for their outstanding wine collections.
2022 is the eighteenth year in which Wine & Spirits celebrates the “The 100 Best Wineries in the World”.
Most of the wineries (38) on the 2022 list are located in the United States. France and Italy follow with 18 and 14 respectively.
The “The 100 Best Wineries in the World 2022” the list also includes Greece Alpha DomainLyrarakis and Vassaltis vineyards.
Alpha Domain, Amydeo, Florina
Alpha Estate was founded in 1997 by experienced winemaker Makis Mavridis and chemist-oenologist Angelos Iatridis, who, after years of experience in various locations in Greece, chose the Amyndeon region to create their own wine.
Respect for nature, combined with high quality and environmentally friendly cultivation practices, contributes to the production of fine wines based on the latest international standards.
Lyrarakis Wines, Crete
Lyrarakis Wines is a family winery located in the region of Peza, near Heraklion, Crete. It has been producing high quality wines since 1966, including rare local grape varieties.
Lyrarakis revived two ancient Cretan varieties: Dafni and Plyto white wines.
The winery also produces the white varieties of Vilana, Moschato and Sauvignon Blanc as well as the red varieties of Kotsifali, Mantilari and more.
Vassaltis Vineyards, Santorini
Vassaltis is the latest addition to from Santorini long wine history. In the wake of the Greek financial crisis of 2010, Yannis Valambous took over the vineyards inherited from his father with a single objective: to transform the family vineyard into a resolutely modern and state-of-the-art wine boutique and to produce exquisite wines that will put showcasing the quality of Santorini grapes.
Vassaltis Winery was completed in 2016 and today combines traditional winemaking with the operational needs of an elegant, state-of-the-art winery capable of producing exceptional wines that showcase the best of Santorini.
Wine & Spirit’s list also includes wineries from the United States, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Canada, South Africa and many other countries.
